Buon Anno!

Buon Anno!

As I spent 2021 watching every film I could find that involved Italian comedic legend Paolo Villaggio - including the entire Fantozzi series - it felt fitting to kick off 2022 by sharing a few New Year scenes from where Paolo Villaggio's creation first began on screen - Luciano Salce's 1975 comedic tour de force, Fantozzi. These screens were taken from the film's New Year (Capodanno) segment in which Fantozzi and family celebrate the bells by attending a company party in less than glamorous surroundings... The night, as you'd naturally expect, doesn't quite go to plan thanks to Ugo Fantozzi's usual nonsense alongside a work shy band who want to clock off well before midnight! I know we're supposed to laugh at what a miserable Hogmanay Fantozzi is having but in these lockdown days, a party in a freezing basement with work colleagues still seems preferable to sitting at home watching the Hootenanny on BBC... Here's hoping this year is a better one for us all and not a series of Fantozzi style calamities!

To those interested in my work and general musings, expect regular updates on the blog this year with new writing alongside notes on what inspires, interests and intrigues me in Italian cinema and beyond. Topic suggestions always welcome. You can find a list of my recent physical media work in the portfolio section of the blog on the tab above.

All the best for 2022!

Rachael.
